Columbarium Ministry Team Annual Report

By Linda Egge, Ministry Team Chair

During the past year our committee moved from the planning stage to the completion stage of the columbarium.  The columbarium now consists of 63 niches for inurnment and 63 spaces for memorial plaques.  We have sold 28 niches and 17 memorial plaques and have held five inurnment committals.

We were able to complete the columbarium with the assistance of many individuals including Steve Masini, who volunteered his services as Architect and General Manager, the Men’s Facility Group who helped with the laying the pavers, preparing the ground to plant grass seed, installing the niche insert structure, providing electrical service to the site, and building the frame for and installing the roof.  Members of Cub Scout Troop 266 and their family members helped us with landscaping for our memorial garden shrub perimeter around the columbarium site.

We are very thankful for church members who purchased niches and memorial plaques and for the many gracious donations given to our ministry. We received approval by the Congregation Council to receive a no interest loan from Bob and Joan Wubbena that made it possible for us to complete the structure. Our current loan balance is $17,000.

Pastor Duane and Pastor Mike are very involved and supportive of this ministry including leading the committal services.

In June 2018 we had a successful Silent Auction FUNdraiser raising $6,200 toward completing the columbarium.  Due to its success, we will have our 2nd Annual Silent Auction FUNdraiser this year in May. Proceeds from this year’s FUNdraiser will help repay the loan amount still outstanding.

We could of not have accomplished this ministry without those who have helped and supported us in various ways. The columbarium is a living and meaningful ministry for the church and touches all of us in many ways as we move through our human life and onto our spiritual one.

If you are interested in purchasing a niche or memorial plaque please contact the church office or Linda Egge at 360 791-6869 to arrange an appointment.

We are very thankful for every one of you.

God’s Blessings
