The Congregation Council wants your input as we develop a budget proposal for your consideration at the annual meeting on Sunday, May 20. Please take 15 minutes to complete a survey on your priorities. While we are doing this survey to inform budget decisions, this is also a church planning tool to help us understand where to invest our energy and direction. The survey information, along with the information from our recent forums and the Strategic Planning Committee’s work, will inform plans for next year.
A bit of budget process background: Each year the Council puts forward a budget proposal. Congregation members voting at the meeting have the option to adopt it as is, or make amendments and adopt the amended version. (That happened last year, for example).
The Council recognizes that our congregation is at a pivotal moment of transition. There are multiple perspectives about where to invest our energies and resources. To help inform our budget proposal, we are asking you to complete this budget survey to help guide us.
Unfortunately, we need to make some difficult choices. If we kept our current budget from 2018 and made no changes, our church would spend nearly $140,000 more than it receives in income and contributions. This would nearly deplete our reserves and is not a realistic option.
You have two options for the survey: an electronic copy or a paper copy. The electronic copy was emailed to members on Friday and can be found on here. Paper copies are available on the Welcome Desk in the Narthex and may be turned into the Church Office or left in Paula Moore’s Council Mailbox across the hall from Darcy’s office (Room 105).
Survey responses will be reviewed by Paula Moore, Congregation Treasurer. Information about budget choices will be aggregated and not attributed to any one specific congregation member. The survey also has an optional part where you can volunteer to have your name shared as a person of interest to learn more about our ministries, volunteer opportunities, and electronic giving.
The Council’s next meeting is Tuesday, May 8. The survey will be open Friday, April 28 and close Sunday, May 6. The summary of results will be posted.
If you missed the budget forum, here’s a copy of the April 15 Budget Forum Final. If you need a paper copy, it is available on the Welcome Desk in the Narthex.
