Shirley Tranum Mitten Tree Tradition Continues

The Shirley Tranum Mitten Tree is up in the Narthex where it serves as a collection spot for gifts we give each year to kids in need at local schools. On the tree you will find paper ornaments that double as gift tags. Each tag has a written description of a particular wish or need for a local child. Please take an ornament, purchase the wished-for item(s), and then place your wrapped gifts under the tree with the ornament/gift tag attached. When you take an ornament/tag, please indicate that you have done so by filling out the requested information on one of the clipboards on the table next to the tree.

The Mitten Tree also serves as a collection spot for other gifts.

  • For area students we’re collecting mittens, hats, scarves, socks, underwear, sweatpants, and sweatshirts. Set the mittens, hats and scarves on the branches of the tree; and set the rest under the tree in the wrapped box labeled for that purpose.
  • For those experiencing homelessness we’re collecting adult-sized socks.
  • For infants in need we’re collecting new infant clothing. Please place these in the wrapped box under the tree labeled for that purpose.

Gifts need to be brought in by Monday, December 10. For more information, contact Sharon Caffey at Sharon@gsolympia.org.
