News from our Tutoring Program

The After School Tutoring Program (ASTP) is full! That’s right; we have 30 students enrolled and a waiting list started. It’s been a few years since we’ve been full at the beginning of the year and Assistant Director Rebecca Rogers and I are excited to get started with our students on Monday, Sept. 25. What we need now are people to help serve as van drivers, snack preparers/servers (this is a new position), activity time helpers, and tutors.

You don’t have to serve the whole year. A nine week commitment is all we ask (you may volunteer for longer if you wish).

Help – Pick up students from Reeve’s Middle School at 3:02 and transport them to tutoring.

Help a student – Complete homework assignments, organize a notebook or backpack, read and take notes, and increase skills and abilities

Everyone interested in volunteering at the tutoring program this year, or wanting more information about volunteering, is invited to attend our annual volunteer training/orientation on either Tuesday, September 19 or Wednesday, September 20. Training is from 4:15 to 5:30 in room 205 at Good Shepherd. Our goal is for all volunteers to attend one of two sessions. Please choose to attend the day that best works for you. Please RSVP to (360) 357-3554 ext. 108  or  to astp@gsolympia.org

We highly encourage everyone to attend this meeting, even if you’ve been volunteering for years, as we will cover all the basics of how the program works, plus we have some exciting new things to share with all of you.

For more information please visit our website at gsolympia.org/tutoring-astp or call Jennifer Meyer, ASTP Director – (360) 357-3554 ext. 108
